PyQt4 for Maya2011 on Windows XP x64
Finally got some time to get back to python after a long break, only to find that I don’t have a working copy of PyQt4. Instead of spending time on google trying to figure out whether anyone has decided to share a copy of PyQt built against Qt4.5.3, decided to build one myself. Having Windows SDK already installed on my XP proved out to be handy since the Visual Studio version I was running was still 32-bit one. Downloaded SIP4.12 source and Qt4.5.3 SDK and within few seconds the PyQt4 module was successfully added to the site-packages.
Thought of sharing the build for those of you who are planning ahead to design awesome GUIs in Maya.You may download it here
Rhythm & Hues wins Academy Award for render management system ‘Queue‘
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that 10 scientific and technical achievements represented by 22 individual award recipients will be honored at its annual Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation at the Beverly Wilshire on Saturday, February 12, 2011.
Chris Allen, Gautham Krishnamurti, Mark A. Brown and Lance Kimes are amongst the 22 individual award recipients for the same. They are being awarded for the development of Queue which is a robust, scalable approach to render queue management. Queue was one of the first systems that allowed for statistical analysis and process introspection, providing a framework for the efficient use of render farms.
This would be the 4th Scientific & Technical Achievement Academy Award for R&H. They have earlier been awarded in 1994, 1998, and most recently in 2008 for their proprietary system of fluid dynamic tools.
Queue has been used at R&H since 1996. It is a proprietary tool used only within R&H. However it is also used across all of the studio‘s various International facilities and allows to share render resources across all of its various studios. The queue has been used on all of R&H projects since its inception. This should be well over 100 Hollywood feature films as well as hundreds of TV commercials and other special venue projects.”

Indian film festivals get to feel the punch again!
DNA Inc’s FEEL THE PUNCH was awarded with the BEST 3D ANIMATED SHORT FILM AWARD at the 7th edition of MAAC’s Annual 24 FPS Animation awards.
The film has already won several prestigious awards including
- The Special Jury Award at the Awards of Excellence, Asifa IAD-2010
- The Special Jury Award at the Short and Documentary Film Festival of Hyderabad (SDFFH)-2010
- and The TASI Viewer’s Choice Award in the “Student Films Category” at Anifest India-2010
The 7th Annual 24 FPS Animation awards were held at the SRPF Grounds in Goregaon, Mumbai on November 19, 2010. The Awards showcased the best animation & VFX work in Hollywood, Bollywood, gaming and commercials. The prestigious event had nominations not only from young Animators and studios in India but also from countries like China, France, Germany and the US.
The jury was drawn from studios like DreamWorks, Lucas film, Rhythm & Hues, Prime Focus, Prana, Pixion, Crest Animation, Maya Digital Media, and more and the awards were given away in over 20 categories covering Gaming, TV, VFX and Advertising.

This keynote explores the complex process used to make CG films at DreamWorks, including the “animation pipeline” and underlying proprietary software tools. Learn what drives the software creation process at DreamWorks, the key challenges and goals for their tools, and where Qt fits into DreamWorks’ strategy for creating their next-generation of animation & lighting applications.
The keynote will be presented by Kenn LeGault, Director of Research & Development for DreamWorks Animation where he oversees CG Lighting Tools, Core Frameworks, Developer Tools, and Automated Test Frameworks . Kenn drove the adoption of Qt at DreamWorks Animation in 2008, and his team is currently building a next-generation Application Framework and Lighting System using Qt.

Got Qwit installed on my pc to continue tweeting right from the desktop. Qwit is a Qt4 cross platform client for twitter with a customizable user interface.
New user accounts can be added from the Accounts section in the options which had options for authorizing the Qwit client to access twitter
Qwit also hosts options for specifying the URL shortener of you choice from a list of URL shortener including click.ru, bit.ly and so on.
There are options for customizing the GUI which include the auto-update section for different categories, retweet options, notification subsystem, colors and also language.

Hugo Vs Lino keeps DNA Inc’s winning streak alive!
Hugo vs Lino, the third among the High-Definition films from DNA Inc won the “Best Animation Film” award at THE NATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL-TEN MINUTES TO FAME’ organized by IMT Nagpur in association with Ten Motion Arts and Cyrus Dastur’s Shamiana on 15th and 16th October, 2010.
All entries for the awards at the festival were viewed by a preview committee and among the top 20 films that were screened on 15th and 16th of October 2010 to the judging committee and a packed audience in the theatre of IMT Nagpur, Hugo Vs Lino was declared the winner in the Animation category.
The‘Best Animation Film’ Award for Hugo Vs Lino comes with a cash prize, a citation and a very special honour: Hugo Vs Lino will be screened in theatres of Shamiana’s chapters across India at Mumbai, Pune, Delhi , Ahmedabad, Baroda and Goa.
